Spirit Airlines has announced new service to Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC), with daily nonstop routes to Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Orlando. The new routes launch on 26 May 2022. SLC celebrated with a spectacular cake, winning anna.aero’s prestigious Cake of the Week prize.

Spirit Airlines has announced new service to Salt Lake City International Airport, with daily nonstop routes to Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Orlando. The new service marks the first time Spirit will serve the state of Utah. The new routes launch on 26 May 2022.

“We listen to our guests, and they told us they wanted more exciting Western destinations to experience the great outdoors,” said John Kirby, Vice President of Network Planning, Spirit Airlines. “This spring is a great time to launch service to Salt Lake City, The Crossroads of the West. We’re also excited to introduce our high-value travel proposition for our new Utah guests looking for convenient non-stop flights to some of the nation’s most popular leisure destinations.”

Spirit is the first new domestic airline to announce operations following the 2020 unveiling of The New SLC, a $4.5 billion airport rebuild project.

“We are thrilled to welcome Spirit Airlines to Salt Lake City International Airport,” said Bill Wyatt, Executive Director, Salt Lake City Department of Airports. “Spirit has the distinction of being the first new domestic carrier to come aboard since opening The New SLC. The Spirit model will be a popular addition to SLC’s portfolio of airlines.”

It’s academic now that Frontier and Spirit are merging but rather than begin service to SLC Spirit would have been better to have initiated service to PVU (Provo). SLC is easily the least passenger friendly large airport in the US, while Provo will be opening a new, small and easily walkable airport in a couple of months. Provo is in the county adjoining Salt Lake City with a population of over 600,000, 40 miles south of SLC. They currently have Allegiant service to cities in Arizona, Texas, Florida, Colorado, and California.
