BA CityFlyer launches route from London City Airport to San Sebastian

Alison FitzGerald, Chief Operating Officer, London City Airport and José Pizarro, who is often described as the Godfather of Spanish cooking, greet the inaugural service on BA CityFlyer’s new London City to San Sebastian route.

BA CityFlyer has launched a twice-weekly service, operating on Fridays and Mondays, from London City Airport to San Sebastian. It is the UK’s only direct route to San Sebastian.

To mark the launch, José Pizarro, who is often described as the Godfather of Spanish cooking, was onsite at the airport to greet all the passengers on the inaugural service, signing copies of his book “Basque” and providing some much sought-after San Sebastian foodie tips. He said: “San Sebastian is etched in my soul as being one of the most important, vibrant and exciting places to visit in Spain. I go back time and again to see my chef friends and always discover something new. The idea that it’s now even easier for me to get there – especially from London City which is near my home and restaurants – is a dream come true!”

The route is scheduled to operate until 2 September 2022 on Embraer E190s and complements the growing British Airways summer network from London City, with other Spanish services to Malaga, Ibiza, Menorca, Palma, and the recently-launched Barcelona.

London City is gearing up for its busiest summer since 2019, with over 300,000 passengers set to travel in July to its 36 domestic and international destinations.

“We are delighted to be growing the choice of leisure destinations from the airport this summer,” said Alison FitzGerald, Chief Operating Officer, London City Airport. “We also want everybody to have the best possible London City experience. That’s why we’re asking passengers to show up no more than two hours before their flight. This will give them ample time to get from our front door and into the terminal to relax before their flight.”

To mark the launch, José Pizarro, who is often described as the Godfather of Spanish cooking, was onsite at the airport to greet all the passengers on the inaugural service, signing copies of his book “Basque” and providing some much sought-after San Sebastian foodie tips.
