Sardinia-based Meridiana has had an eventful last few years with mergers, consolidation, rivals going bust and issues regarding its operating licence. Italy and Greece have been the main beneficiaries of new route launches (from Air Italy, blu-express, easyJet and Wizz Air) this week as we head into the peak of the European summer season. Other interesting new routes are provided by Estonian Air, Tiger Airways and yet another new route from Turkish Airlines.
Well it had to happen sooner or later. Just seven new routes identified this week but that includes three from a new Japanese airline (FDA) and a new transatlantic service (from Icelandair).
This week we counted over 80 new routes launches including 18 from Ryanair. But there are also new routes from the likes of Aeroflot, AirAsia X, airBaltic, Andalus, clickair, Continental, Danubewings, Delta/Northwest, easyJet, firefly, flybe, Mahan Air, Norwegian, Southwest, Tiger Airways, Transaero, US Airways, Volaris, Widerøe, Wind Jet and Wizz Air.
This week sees the launch of over 30 new routes from the likes of AeroSvit, Air China, Air Europa, Air Italy, AirTran, Alaska Airlines, blu-express, BlueWings, China Southern, clickair, CSA Czech Airlines, Delta, easyJet, Flybe, Jazeera, JetStar, Kingfisher, Lufthansa, MIAT Mongolian, Pegasus, Pluna, Porter, Transavia and Zambezi Airlines. That pretty much covers all four corners of the globe!
