June 2013 saw Italian airports report their first combined year-on-year increase in passenger numbers since July 2012. In the first five months of 2013, Europe’s flag-carriers have reported traffic growth of just 1.3%, according to the AEA. This disguises some major variations by geographic market, with domestic traffic down 3.3%, but cross-border European traffic up 2.5%. But it’s the Middle East that is the fastest-growing region, with passenger numbers up over 10%.
