With Indian domestic traffic now falling at almost 20% the country’s two biggest private airlines have forged an alliance. What market share will they have at key airports and who will be their biggest rivals? At which major airport will they have less than a 50% share?
This week’s new routes are provided by Aer Lingus, airBaltic, Allegiant Air, easyJet, Indian Airlines, IndiGo, Kingfisher Red and Ryanair. The PR departments at easyJet (five new routes) and IndiGo (four new routes) have been kept busiest. We also report on the start of a new airline, GeorgiaSkies.
This week’s new routes come mostly from Asia and the Middle East. Afriqiyah starts service from Libya to Dubai, while Pakistan’s airblue links Lahore with Muscat. India’s Paramount began a new domestic route and Hong Kong Express launched flights to Manila in competition with three other carriers. Norwegian re-started a domestic route, and Pacific Blue started Auckland-Melbourne.
