Ahead of Christmas, we have seen 83 new routes launch! You might have thought that route launch celebrations would be more low-key as Christmas celebrations take over, but we dare almost say it has been the contrary. We have fantastic photos from route launches all across the world!

An entire 54 new routes launched in the last week! Basel, Delhi and Rome Fiumicino saw the most new routes, but we have a full report from all over the world. And most importantly, lots of great pictures to go with it!

(Tuesday 3 August – Monday 9 August):
A quiet time for new route launches as for western carriers the summer peak is well under way. But we still have new routes involving airports in Australia, Belarus, China, Colombia, Congo, El Salvador, India, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, Sweden and Thailand.

A big anna.aero welcome to AeroGal of Ecuador making their first appearance in this section as part of another healthy crop of new routes this week with a particular focus on leisure routes from Canada. We have details (and celebratory pictures) of new routes started this week in Albania, Australia, Austria, Canada, Ecuador, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Macau, Mexico, Netherlands, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Thailand, the UK and the USA.
Indonesia’s traffic up 3.5% last year; Lion Air now #1 among domestic carriers; still no non-stop flights to Western Europe
Despite the collapse of Adam Air Indonesia’s airports still grew last year handling almost 80 million passengers. The domestic market is highly competitive but non-stop long-haul routes to Europe and North America are still missing.

The calm before the storm this week with just seven new routes identified. These came from AirAsia’s Indonesian subsidiary, Continental, jetBlue and Shanghai Airlines. Next week there will be over 200.
