Edinburgh saw traffic fall (marginally) for the first time in 15 years, but is coping better than many other UK airports thanks to growing low-cost activity. Which legacy carriers are still there (including US ones) and which routes have been abandoned?
Hamilton International airport, some 70 kilometres south-west of Toronto, has seen traffic yo-yo in recent years. Once a significant base for WestJet it saw FlyGlobespan start services from 11 UK airports in 2007 before adding Bristol and Dublin routes in 2008.
Scotland’s first and so far only LCC will be celebrating its fifth birthday next month having carried over two million passengers in 2007. Last year was tough for the airline for various reasons. How has its network strategy developed? Which bases have been axed and which short-haul routes failed to deliver? How is the long-haul network developing?
