New routes launched during the last week (Tuesday 18 May – Monday 24 May):
Over 60 new routes this week with a strong bias towards European LCCs. Cimber Sterling, easyJet, Jet2.com, Ryanair and Wizz Air all launched multiple routes. But AirAsia, Avianova, BA CityFlyer, Delta, Flydubai, Southwest, Spanair and Transaero among others all had reasons to celebrate this week.

54 new routes were launched in the last week, with the most airports involved located in the United States, followed by Italy. 25 European countries are represented as well as the US, Canada, Malaysia, India, Pakistan, UAE, Afghanistan, Greenland, Kuwait, Oman and Singapore.

The last week has been another busy week with 87 routes being launched by 27 of the world’s airlines. New routes have started in countries as varied as across 25 European countries as well as Canada, China, Dominican Republic, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Mexico, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Syria, South Africa and the US.

The lull before the (winter) storm. Just 16 new routes this week but they involve airports in Canada, China, Egypt, Macau, Malaysia, the Maldives, Oman, Spain, Sri Lanka, the UAE, the UK and the US. Get ready, next week we’ll be reporting on the launch of over 150 new routes.

Things pick up again this week, though some routes originally scheduled to start this week have been put back. But we still have Southwest’s arrival in Boston, several new routes from Norwegian, a new country market for AirAsia and Jet Airways adding flights to Dubai. Plus China Eastern, Donbassaero, SA Airlink and TACA.
