A quiet time for new route launches as for western carriers the summer peak is well under way. But we still have new routes involving airports in Australia, Belarus, China, Colombia, Congo, El Salvador, India, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, Sweden and Thailand.
In the last week, Russian airports saw the most new routes launched, followed by airports in the UK. The US, Italy, Spain, Greece, China and Norway also had multiple launches, while the rest of the week’s 41 new routes took place in Canada, Tunisia and across Europe and Asia.
Much of Europe has been hit by the volcanic ash cloud spreading across the continent from Iceland, which means that 11 planned route launches have not taken place. Vueling responds to Spanair; Porter adds Moncton; two new US hub routes; Belavia increases Moscow options; Highland Airways and Viva Macau cease flying
Several interesting route announcements from Belarus, Canada, Spain and the USA, plus some analysis on two airlines that stopped flying this week. One operated Jetstream 31s, the other Boeing 767s.
Ok, mid-January is not really the best time to start new routes but we still found new routes starting this week involving airports in Belarus, China, Denmark, Germany, India, Italy, Latvia, Qatar, Sweden, Taiwan and the US. And where did an A380 turn up this week?
Well it had to happen sooner or later. We could find only three new routes that started this week but we’re not saying which ones. You’ll just have to read our fascinating facts and trivia on each route. Don’t worry, next week it looks like we’ll have about 20 new routes to write about.
