Welcome to
the fabulous city our of Las Vegas!
Routes delegates had
the chance to enjoy a
sunny (what else!) tour of
several Las Vegas sights on
Saturday, aided by
knowledgeable local guides.
First stop was at the Neon
Museum, where historic
neon signs from some of Las
Vegas’ now defunct
buildings have found a new
home. For at least one of the
tour guides this was a trip
down memory lane as he
remembered many of the
buildings when they were
still standing. There followed
a trip to Fremont Street,
which by local standards
almost passes as a historic
district. An open air
shopping mall, the area
attracts a different
clientele from those
typically found on The
Strip. Further stops on the
tour included a visit to The
Venetian, famous for its
recreation of ancient
Venice complete with
gondolas and a version of
the Rialto Bridge, and the
Bellagio. Some of the tours
also managed to take in
the actual ‘Welcome To
Fabulous Las Vegas’ sign.
The Minsk Airport contingency demonstrating their good
luck wishes ahead of Routes 2013, giving a thumbs down
to a neon relic from Binion’s Horseshoe Casino, which
was deliberately turned upside-down by Benny Binion to
ensure visiting gamblers received bad luck.
In the late Vegas sunshine are: StevenWilfred Arthur,
Manager Economic Regulations, Ghana Civil Aviation
Authority; Joyce Dodoo, Commercial and Retail Manager,
Ghana Airports Company; and David Adu-Bediako,
Senior Marketing Officer, Ghana Airports Company.
Tour guide Kirk kicked off the afternoon’s complimentary city tour around the “town of
losers and liars”.
