terminal; new airline

Last month,
Mayor
Landrieu of New Orleans
unveiled conceptual
renderings of the
650,000-square-foot
(60,000 square metres)
new North Terminal
complex that features two
concourses with 30 gates,
a consolidated checkpoint
and seamless connections
between concourses. The
$826m (Є600m)
development is due for
completion in 2018.
“When millions of people
visit New Orleans each
year — whether for work
or pleasure — one of the
first and last places they
see and experience is our
airport,” said U.S. Senator
Mary Landrieu. “As the
needs of our city continue
to grow, our ability to
handle the influx of
passengers must grow
too. A new, modernised
terminal that is more
passenger friendly with
increased connectivity,
will help us accommodate
our expanding tourism
industry and the business
community that is
making New Orleans one
of the fastest growing
cities in the country. I
look forward to working
with the Mayor, local
officials and stakeholders
to make this new terminal
a reality.”
first time for Alaska
The good news continued
for New Orleans, with the
recent announcement
that Alaska Airlines
is planning to start
non-stop services from
Seattle-Tacoma on 12
June. The route will be
flown daily using the
carrier’s 737 equipment.
“This will be the first time
they have served the
New Orleans market with
scheduled service,” added
Gary Roulston, Marketing
Manager, New Orleans
International Airport.
