As C Group firefighters listen intently,
Watkins illustrates a perfectly performed
pair of ‘leaping Dolphins’, which should
alllow the airport to gain a top score for
their next route launch.
Now for the practical. With the theory lessons learnt
indoors, C Group displays its new found fTWA prowess in
front of the station. The crews have four weeks to get it right
before the new route launch of daily ATR 72 services from
Belgrade with Air Serbia on 30 March.
A big fTWA no-no is when tenders opt for
achieving maximum clearance over the
aircraft, leading to the style of arch commonly
known as ‘Tobleroning’. Watkins shows his
displeasure at this type of arch with one of the
C Group firefighters during the lesson.
“its all about the angle of the water jet, the
positioning of the tenders relative to the aircraft
and capturing the moment with a good picture
at the right time,” suggests Watkins.
